Photo library

Filtering, ratings, color labels, sorting and search.

Unused, Used and All filters

13:47

The library shows Unused by default so you don't place the same photo twice. Switch to All to see everything with used photos dimmed, or Used to see only what's placed.

Filter by star rating

14:29

Star ratings you set in Lightroom come across with the files. Set a minimum rating in the library to work only from your picks.

Filter by color label

14:45

Color labels come across with your files too, so you can isolate a camera body, a lens or a second shooter if that's how you label.

Preview a photo large (spacebar)

15:52

Hover a photo and press the spacebar for a large preview with file name, dimensions, color profile, rating and capture time. Works in the library and on the canvas.

Find a photo by file name or number

16:42

Type a file number or name into the library search to jump straight to that photo - what you want when a client says "change image 62".

Sort the photo library

16:25

Sort by capture time or date modified, and reverse either one.

Show file names and file numbers

15:23

The library shows the end of the file name by default, since that's where most photographers keep the number. If you number the front instead, change it in settings.

Photo library view options

58:44

Turn file names, the rating filter, color labels and quality indicators on or off to reclaim space in the library panel.

Make library thumbnails bigger or smaller

1:33

The slider scales the thumbnails, and works the same whether the photo library is docked left, docked below or full screen. Smaller thumbnails mean you can marquee-select more photos in one drag.
